A New Chapter for a Historic Mining Region
Our Story
Vareš has been shaped by mining for generations. Following the decline of industrial mining in the late twentieth century, Vareš experienced significant economic and demographic change. The region offered a high-quality mineral deposit, a strong mining heritage and an opportunity for modern mining to support renewed economic activity, employment and long-term development.
Following the completion of DPM Metals’ acquisition of Adriatic Metals in September 2025, the Vareš operations became part of DPM Metals’ international operating portfolio, guided by a consistent approach to operational discipline, safety, environmental stewardship and engagement with local communities – the same approach recognised at our operations in Bulgaria.
Our Operations Today
The Vareš operations comprise the Rupice underground mine, the Vareš Processing Plant and associated infrastructure, producing lead-silver and zinc concentrates.
The Vareš Operations achieved commercial production on 10 August 2026 and continue to ramp up towards the full annual processing rate, supported by further investment, including a paste backfill plant and a second tailings filter.

How We Operate
The Vareš operations have been designed and developed in line with applicable national requirements and relevant international standards.
Our environmental and social commitments were established through a full Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and are managed through an Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS) aligned with the IFC Performance Standards, EBRD Performance Requirements and the Equator Principles.
We also work to remediate the legacy of historical mining in the region, because being a responsible operator means caring for what came before us, not only what we build ourselves.
